Why She Chose to Build the Legacy

Nefertari Edge, formerly Daniels, reflects on Kenwood Academy, the Class of 1996, and why becoming a Founding Charter ALUXNI matters.

The Registry of Founders begins as most records do — with one name written carefully.

There is a particular sound a school hallway makes before the first bell—a rising, unrehearsed chorus of footsteps and greetings. Nefertari Edge can still hear it. Thirty years on, she describes it the way people describe a hometown street: not as a memory, but as a place that still exists.

She graduated from Kenwood Academy in 1996 and built a career in nursing before founding Edge Transportation, a logistics company that moves vehicles across the country for travel nurses and the agencies that deploy them. Eighteen years of clinical practice taught her what a rushed relocation costs a caregiver. Her company exists to remove that cost.

Choosing to Be First

When 5015 House opened its Founding Charter class, being first meant committing before there was proof. There was no Registry to join, no photograph of a plaza, no roster of names to stand beside. There was only a proposition: that a school community deserves a permanent address, and that alumni can build one.

A school is a beginning. What we build after it is the legacy.
Nefertari Edge, FP-001

Her decision to become the first Founding Charter ALUXNI was not rooted in nostalgia alone. It was grounded in conviction. She believes the students walking those hallways today deserve a community that has already chosen to believe in them.

What a Founding Place Makes Possible

A Founding Charter contribution helps establish the House while supporting Education Couture's literacy mission in the school community it honors. The impact is both visible and invisible. A name engraved in the Registry of Founders is one expression of that commitment. The opportunities created for today's students are another.

In Her Own Words

When asked why she became a Founding Charter ALUXNI, Nefertari didn't hesitate.

Well, first and foremost, it was my cousin—a fellow Kenwood graduate—who brought this initiative to me. I know we are both equally passionate about our alma mater, so of course I was excited to join my little cousin on this mission. Beyond that, knowing firsthand how important the work taking place at Kenwood is—and how essential it is that it be fully funded—it was a no-brainer for me to support my favorite high school. (Only high school, but that's not the point.) I simply love being a Bronco, and I wholeheartedly support the school and every Bronco it has welcomed, educated, and inspired—especially the students sitting within those walls of learning today. My life's mission is to be of service to my fellow human beings, and this felt like a meaningful way to live that mission. Supporting Education Couture's literacy initiative—helping children learn to read—was an incredible bonus to the opportunity to robustly support my alma mater. Investing in work that helps combat illiteracy is something I deeply believe in, and I'm genuinely grateful to be part of it. I hope more Broncos—and Dolphins—will join us on this mission. Together, we can celebrate the legacies that shaped us while paying it forward for the generations of students who are walking those same hallways today and those who will follow tomorrow.
