Why Literacy?
For me, it all begins with the little girl who used to hide in the corner with a book. Reading wasn't just something I did—it was my favorite thing in the world. Just ask my 10-year-old self. During my fifth- and sixth-grade Book It! era, I was on an unbelievable streak of earning personal pizzas simply because I couldn't stop reading.
That childhood joy never left me.
Over the years, my love of reading grew into something much deeper: a passion for helping as many children as possible learn to read so they, too, have the opportunity to discover the joy and possibilities that literacy can bring. I hope they come to love reading as much as I do. But even if they don't, literacy remains one of the most essential skills a person can have.
Reading is woven into everyday life. From navigating traffic signs to following a recipe, completing a job application, understanding a medical form, or helping a child with homework, literacy is foundational to how we move through the world. Beyond daily life, it is the gateway to every other subject we teach. Whether a student dreams of becoming a scientist, an engineer, an entrepreneur, or an artist, every path begins with the ability to read.
So why literacy?
Because reading is not simply the foundation of academic success—it is the foundation of opportunity. More importantly, it is a skill every person deserves, regardless of background or circumstance. The ability to read doesn't just help us succeed.
It helps us navigate life itself.
That is why Education Couture is committed to making literacy joyful, accessible, and celebrated—because every child deserves the opportunity to become a confident reader, a lifelong learner, and ultimately, a Lux Learner.

What happens when young readers are invited to show us what they see?
Lux Learner Visual Storytelling is a new Education Couture literacy initiative exploring what happens when reading, imagination and visual expression meet.
Lux Learners encounter stories not only as readers, but as interpreters and creators—using textual evidence, imagination and their own visual language to make visible the worlds they discover on the page.
Books give young people worlds to enter. Lux Learner Visual Storytelling gives them a way to answer back.

Through ALUXNI, we are also committed to being faithful stewards of funding that helps strengthen and transform public education—supporting as many students, or what we proudly call Lux Learners, as possible.
We understand the value of knowledge because we also understand the cost of being denied the learning opportunities every child deserves. Education has the power to change the trajectory of a life, and literacy is the foundation upon which that transformation begins.

The vision for Education Couture is simple: to build a future where transformative literacy and learning experiences are so generously supported through joyful philanthropy that schools and communities can access them at little or no cost. When communities invest together, schools gain the freedom to direct their limited resources toward the many other needs their students deserve.
We believe every child should have access to joyful, high-quality literacy experiences—not because a school found room in its budget, but because a community chose to invest in its future.

And yes—we understand something very human.
